Invited by Sophie Ravier, the woman behind The Yoga Mama Club, I travelled to Sifnos to do a yoga weekend retreat for the closing of the summer season. I thought I was going there just to chill a bit from my continuous state of anxiety and get my muscles fired up again with the help of my bestie Zoe Karamani, who is an amazing Ashtanga teacher. But this was only part of the experience… The Yoga Mama Club is about rebooting and feeling inspired; it is really about Sophie Ravier’s energy & good intentions that aim to bring people together and offer a mini, rejuvenating, soul-soothing break.
Greece is trully a blessed country, with divine greek islands that you can visit all year round! One of my favorites is Symi that I recently visited for a long weekend to celebrate my beloved friend’s Zoe’s birthday! We were a group of four girls with a check-list of paradise beaches, amazing tavernas, bars, shops and hidden knucks to visit… And we did go everywhere – trust me! Here are our tips from the weekend:
#ANTIPAROS, a small Cycladic boho island, carefree and original that has attracted many worldide celebrities over the years! Especially on the last week of July and first weeks of August, the island is really buzzing with life and its tiny town, with traditional restaurants and bars, is crowded with sunkissed, good-looking people, both local and international. Antiparos can be a great place for family holidays and can be lived in a very tranquil & serene way… But my memories from this island – especially on the first weeks of August – are those of an alternative & unpretentious party scene! Throughout summers, I have witnessed lots of hook-ups and beginnings of love stories taking place there. And I have to admit that I, too, have fallen under the spell of the island on a rare blue moon…
I’m falling in love with #SKIATHOS over time, and the more I visit it, it’s becoming evident to me that, at this stage of my life, this is my favorite Greek island to be! I had been many times in the past in Skiathos, but I can’t say I was as infatuated as I am today. As with every destination, however, if you visit it with “the right people” and get to go to “the right places“, then you get a sense of the local vibe, you find all the hidden gems and have the best food! You experience the best of what the island has to offer and get to see the sheer beauty of it!
The more I grow up, the more I get to adore and admire Greece’s countless beauties. Though there are many landmarks I have visited in my childhood and I’m familiar with, I often realise that over the years, I have lost track of the exact details and images. I have grown a nostalgia for rediscovering my country and legacy, ultimately believing that through such expeditions, I get to rediscover parts of myself, too. And so in this spirit, on a cloudy and mystical day, my girlfriends and I visited, once again, the famous ancient sanctuary of Delphi!
Olympos, a mountain village a one-hour-drive away from town, was my greatest hook to go to Karpathos… I had been told about a legend surrounding it, whereby once you visit it, you are greeted by local women, who – more or less – force you to put on a “Mantila” (aka traditional greek head-scarf), and then make a wish! Story has it that, within a year, your wish will be granted…
KARPATHOS has been a revelation and, definitely, a Dodecanese island I would love to go to again next summer! I decided to go there, when a friend of mine (with family roots and a house on the island), showed me some pictures on her phone. I instantly fell in love with the the island’s wild beauty, crystal clear waters, awesome beaches, as well as with Olympos, a picturesque mountain village with local traditions and legends, worthy of its own separate post!
Greece has jaw-dropping archaeoligical sites and monuments to see and, definitely, Delos is on the top of that list! I’m embarrassed to admit, though, (since I’m a greek, who grew up and lives in Greece and all…) that the last time I visited the magical island of Delos… I was more or less six years old!
