Fashion Thoughts

Valentino – the Emperor came to Athens!

Recently, I had the amazing experience and distinct honor of getting introduced to the fashion Emperor – Valentino, who came to Athens for a brief visit. In the spirit of #AthensRevival, supporting the notion that Athens is still a wonderful and safe city, Valentino Garavani, Giancarlo Giammetti and their good friend and jet-setter Micaela Calabresi Marconi, visited Athens in springtime with their private jet, for a three-day city break.

Their good friend Chrysanthos Panas –  a pioneer in greek hospitality and entertainment industry – together with the Emperor’s old friend, Ilias Psinakis – the Mayor of Marathon – welcomed them and showed them around to the most beautiful attractions of Athens.

On their first night in Athens, they dined at the historic restaurant of  Zonars, renovated and re-opened by Chrysanthos Panas. It was there, in this unique atmosphere, where authentic paintings of Picasso, Matisse and Giacometti are exhibited, that Giancarlo Giammetti signed his book “Private”, while Valentino signed his, entitled  “At the Emperor’s Table”.

It was also in Zonars that my beloved and longtime friend Chrysanthos Panas introduced me to Valentino! In all honesty, I was completely star-struck and in awe to get acquainted to this Fashion Legend!

“He is the most elegant man, with the most aristocratic allure I have ever come across.”

In an incredibly well-mannered, disarming and enchanting way, he took my hand and told me that I was beautiful and that I reminded him of a very good and very chic friend of his…! I felt utterly humble and grateful, at the same time, to receive the compliment of a lifetime – from a Man, who has defined fashion and elegance and whom I have always admired so much!

On the second night of their visit, the jet-set team chose Athens exclusive members’ club Salon de Bricolage , where Valentino commented on the crowd as “stylish and quality people”.  Finally, on their last day  they visited the Acropolis and The Acropolis Museum and later on, they had lunch at the sophisticated City Bistro in the theatre district of Athens.
