I most definitely had to include this very unique black-themed apartment in my blog. Not only because it has been one of New York’s most famous bachelor pads – ironically owned by a woman Cindy Gallop – and has featured in Law & Orders SUV, Notorious B.I.G’s, “Nasty Girl” video and many other photoshoots, but also because I find its owner, an incredible, dynamic, unconventional and inspirational woman.
Former Chairwoman of the advertising giant BBH, Cindy Gallop, commissioned the Apartment Creative Agency for this one of a kind project and gave them a very specific instruction, stating that she wanted to feel, as if she were in a Shanghai Nightclub – Glamour Bar, to be precise. To this, the Apt replied: “What if you lived in a Chinese Laquer box?”. The result was this dramatic, black themed and luxury galore, exceptional loft with no walls, just a network of two track curtains that could be used to make rooms on-the-fly. It counts a prominent light box display, featuring Gallop’s 300 pairs of cherished heels amongst its many eccentricities.
I also had to add Cindy Gallop’s infamous racy TED talk to the mix , a video that has gone massively viral. It is about her MakeLoveNotPorn online platform, which she launched in 2009, in an attempt to squash the myths of hardcore pornography and raise awareness about what is happening in real world, when real people have sex. Her latest project is the If we ran the world online platforfm, which is a real world experiment in tapping good intentions and turning them into tangible, do-able microactions that anyone and everyone can help you to do! Yet, another example of this very successful, gracious, educated entrepreneurial woman, that is not afraid to swim against the current and curve her own feisty path.
